Dave and Sherry McCampbell, Soggy Paws
Cruising the Western Caribbean

Dave and Sherry have spent the past year and a half in the Western Caribbean on their CSY 44, Soggy Paws. They started their current cruise, a planned circumnavigation, from Florida in May 2007. On their way south through the Western Caribbean they have visited Belize, Guatemala, Honduras, Panama, Colombia, and completed a Panama Canal Transit. Not content to just visit the waterfront, they have done extensive inland travels in Colombia, Belize and Guatemala. Their seminar, more than just a slide show, will include much useful information including preparation, provisioning, security, navigation, communications, diving and inland travel.
Sherry started cruising with her dad as a teenager, completing one lap around the Caribbean in 1975, long before GPS and Winlink. In the mid 1990s she made another lap around the Caribbean again with her own family during a four year cruise on a Prout Snowgoose catamaran. Upon her return she settled in the Melbourne area and worked as a computer programmer for Globe Wireless, a big shipping communications company. For fun she designed websites and became a highly successful racing sailor, campaigning her own 28’ sailboat for six years.
Dave is a retired naval officer and charter sailing captain. He started cruising in 1975, buying his first boat, a 1929 Alden yawl, while stationed in Guantanamo, Cuba. He has since owned six sailboats and cruised on both coasts of the U.S., Hawaii and the Western Pacific. He also completed a four year trip around the Caribbean from 1998-2002, spending over two years in the Western Caribbean.
